Some pictures of Buenos Aires

Hello everybody,

Just left Buenos Aires, and here´s my first effort to show you some of the things I´ve seen. Actually I´ve been quite lazy, sleeping in parks and on plaza´s. I even awoke myself, because I started snoring. First four days I was tired of the flight, but thereafter it got better, and with a few people I met in the hostel, we went into the streets and plaza´s at night, and yes you guessed it right we had a few beers, and more wine. Everything here is incredibly inexpensive (about 2-3 euro per meal including drinks).


Border of Buenos Aires (Costanera Sur wildlife reserve)

Buenos Aires is a beautifull city, it´s rather like a modern European city, with a right mixture of old and modern buidings. What´s funny, is that BUA is located near the river Plata, but in between the river (which is extremely wide here, and which they call MAR DULCE (the sweet Sea) and BUA there´s this little wildlife reserve, in which there are a lott of birds (I saw parakeets, herons, woodpeckers, and even some Flamingo´s, the most beautifull bird i saw was a very small humingbird, not more than 4 cm, just in front of my eyes).


Plaza de Mayo

Here you see the famous Plaza de Mayo, which is the oldest part of the town. Around it are many government buidings (CASA ROSADA), and the place is well known because every thursday the ´Crazy mothers´ are still demonstrating here. Everyday you see an impressive bunch of policemen and soldiers, feering that the revolution can start every moment.

Puerto Madero (BUA)

This is one of the many ports they have here. This port is being renovated into a luxourios area to celebrate the nightlife. In the 30´s it was used as a harbour, and there still many remnants of it.


Grave of Evita

You can´t come to BUA and not seeing Evita Perron´s grave. It´s situated in an impressive cemetery, a little town of its own, with large statues, tombs and mausoleums. The dead live a comfortable life here. Evita´s girl name was Duarte, and she´s in a family grave. Her husband is not here, he´s in another cemetery.

Here´s another picture of a plaza, there are many plaza´s in BUA and they have trees!! - they actually accept trees to grow in this town, unlike in many dutch cities-.

Another characteristic of BUA are it´s wide avenues (one I measured was about 130 metres wide!), and that combined with all the green(!!) parks gives the city a grandeur I hardly have ever seen. This city I wouldn´t mind living in. Yes Mark S, you right about that, and I can imagine you never got out of it. I however have moved to Ushuaia, before the summer there ends.
Okay just a short mail but I´ll try to describe my impressions of Buenos Aires a littlebit better in another mail. This is just the pictured version!
